So I’m going to go for it with my blog again—and:
1. I’m kind of over my old blog posts…so I took them down & some oldies but goodies will go back up soon…And:
2. My last blog was about my experience dancing Samba semi-professionally in NYC—and combining Lifting Weights with Dancing! Super fun & fascinating…
And now that we’ve moved to a new town—outside the glamorous hustle of NYC—to a small (though really cool) town called Des Moines, Iowa.
Yep, this Virginia-Italy-California-Brazil-NYC girl is now in the Middle of the middle of the country.
Ode to oceans of corn & wind power and all that!
And to the idea of Joie de Vivre, aka:
Blooming Where You’re Planted…
Which means to me making the best of any situation—putting your energy into making friends, rocking community endeavors, watering new roots—digging down so that you can find strength to blossom, be bold,
And pollinate the world around you with your bossy-ass good ideas 🙂
It was way too easy to miss performing & dancing Samba in NYC. It’s been way too easy to miss the big bear-hug of community that is the Bay Area, California. Both places with a never-ending shortage of things to do and places to be.
Here in Des Moines, Iowa–it’s been a long & lonely winter. I started teaching a dance class, which has been awesome.
But I had to trade in my past for embracing the here and now…
Digging in, waking up each morning & deciding to make the most of each day.
I have to say I’ve met some really COOL people here. There is a hidden diversity & outright opportunity to create cool stuff here.
So be on the lookout for my new Bloom Where You’re Planted guest features (I recommend subscribing to my blog :))—I’m excited to highlight some of the amazing people & their mad skillzzzz here 🙂
Pleasurable Living + Fitness
And first, I just wanted to share that I’m excited to blog about a more artistic exploration of Pleasurable Living (& that whole Joie de Vivre thang)…
And how you can get into Pleasurable Fitness, too!
I think that *fitness* comes with these very heavy ideas of “no pain, no gain”…sacrifice & suffering through horrible gym experiences…having to jump up & down and do crazy knee moves if you want to get fit at home…having to dance for fitness (ermmmm…)
Instead, since people don’t seem to be getting much healthier and a scant fraction of Americans actually do any kind of official exercise…I do think it’s time to shed the heavy weight of cultural images of what it takes to be fit…and get into the very do-able AND effective idea of Pleasurable Fitness instead! 🙂
Here’s a fun ebook I just made for you…my 5 Recipes to Love for Fitness Energy (see below)…
Thanks for checking out my new home…
Hummingbird is the word (hummingbard?)
Oooh…I have always loved hummingbirds, and I’ve even been able to attract them on my porch with the help of a lovely hot pink Hibiscus plant (which actually really digs the HOT summer temps here)…
I love how hummingbirds symbolize finding and being in your joy…mighty energy and grace…and quick-witted movement.
And I’m tired of trying (kind of unsuccessfully) to just write about fitness…when Wellness has to do with so much more…and ART and service both are key to
feeling good in this life.
So here’s to art. Here’s to self- and community- creation. Here’s to the power of movement and self-expression (and creating joy).
